The painter’s subjects range from solitary and grotesque figures of lonelihood to scenes of austere rusticity. His portraits, while depicting sexual mania, outrageous grief, faltering masculinity and crumbling intellect are not contritional; rather, these are works of humor and pathos. There is, however, a manner of relief sought beyond the insular confines of these personalities. The alliance shared by bodies in a landscape promises, if not transmutation, a greatly diminished agony.

Artist Statement:
My practice is studio based and is focused on abstract drawing painting and sculpture. I typically work with invented formal systems that on the surface might appear to operate with in a typical abstract, modernist vocabulary. As I work to strip things down by reanalyzing color, surface, and structure I am simultaneously attempting to discover, and make public, complex private emotions in a systematized way. I find it interesting how complicated the harmonics of art work necessarily becomes when paired with introspective emotion. Regardless, I strive for the results to be hopefully intelligent, considered, humorous, and at best inspirational.

Various Business is an exhibition of three Canadian painters of varying styles, aesthetics and concepts.

Although sharing the same medium is the single common denominator between the three participating artists works, we can acknowledge that through comparison we are able to measure individuality. The simple task of grouping artists whose initial intention to paint has brought them together for a unique opportunity for inspiration, analysis and interpretation.

Where I End, You begin, is a conceptual collaboration between artists Tyler Lepore and Seth Fluker. Through the lens, they comment on the limitations and endless possibilities of our daily perspectives. From down to up and ground to sky, they will challenge our scope and push us to see what isn’t always there.

Anthony Record received his M.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2008 and currently lives and works in Tampa, Florida. Working to achieve absolute equivocally in all elements of visual experience, his paintings and drawings challenge the boundaries of recognition and address the limits of perception.

Nadia Moss is a Montreal-based visual artist. Her favoured media includes drawing, painting and doll making.  Her current subject matter includes monsters, Canadian geese, and the beach.  She has exhibited in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. Her last book of drawings Mr. Non. Pigeon was published in 2005 by L’Oie de Cravan with the next one due this November.
